
Director: Matthew J. Goetke
Matthew J. Goetke is a graduate
of Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, with an honors degree in
Music Education. This is his tenth year as the Director of Vocal Music at William R.
Satz School and Holmdel High School, where he directs the
choral and bell programs, as well as teaches general music and music theory. Mr. Goetke is an active member of MENC: The National
Association for Music Education, the New Jersey Music Educators Association, the
American Choral Directors Association, and the American Guild of English
Handbell Ringers. He is an active participant in the music department of
the Colts Neck Reformed Church where he directs the Alleluia Angels Choir with
his wife.
William R. Satz School Concert Chorus
The Satz Concert Chorus is an ensemble of approximately fifty students in grades seven and eight. The chorus is a non-auditioned group, where any student interested in learning to sing can participate. The chorus meets during the 0 Period hour (7:30 - 8:10 a.m.) on alternating days, this year on B Day. The students work on a variety of repertoire in two- and three-part harmony. This ensemble performs at three concerts per year, as well as participates in the High Note Festivals Adjudications where they are observed and critiqued by professional musicians from around the country.
William R. Satz School Melody Ringers
The Melody Ringers is an ensemble of between nine and eleven students. While this group is non-auditioned, it is encouraged that students know the fundamentals of sight reading. The Melody Ringers meet during the 0 Period hour (7:30 - 8:10 a.m.) on alternating days, this year on A Day. The students work on a variety of repertoire, and perform at the same concerts as the Concert Chorus.
Holmdel High School Concert Chorus
The High School Concert Chorus currently has almost seventy members. This audition-only ensemble performs music up through Level 4 in four-part harmony (sometimes even more!). The chorus meets during Period 9 (1:55 - 2:34 p.m.) every day. In addition, students have group lessons once a week to further their musical abilities. This ensemble performs at three concerts per year, as well as participates in the High Note Festivals Adjudications where they are observed and critiqued by professional musicians from around the country. Auditions are held at the end of January, with audition materials available at the beginning of December in the Chorus Room and on this site.
Holmdel High School Mixed Ensemble
The Mixed Ensemble is a non-auditioned group for anyone interested in participating in the choral program. This ensemble performs at three concerts per year, as well as participates in the High Note Festivals Adjudications where they are observed and critiqued by professional musicians from around the country. NOTE: The Mixed Ensemble will not be running for the 2010-2011 school year.
Holmdel High School Madrigal Choir
The Madrigal Choir is the most advanced choral group in the school, with sixteen members currently participating. Students must first be part of the choral program, either the Concert Chorus or the Mixed Ensemble, and then pass a further audition. This audition occurs in early June for the following year. The ensemble rehearses Tuesday and Friday mornings, from 6:30 - 7:15 a.m. during the musical season. The Madrigal Choir performs the highest level of choral repertoire, usually reserved for college level ensembles. This ensemble performs at three concerts per year, as well as participates in the High Note Festivals Adjudications where they are observed and critiqued by professional musicians from around the country. In addition, the Madrigal Choir performs at community events and does concert promotions in December and May.
Holmdel High School Harmony Ringers
The Harmony Ringers are the beginning bell students in the High School. This program is open to any student wishing to learn how to play handbells. This ensemble performs at two concerts per year. The Harmony Ringers rehearse Tuesday afternoons from 2:40 to 4:00 p.m., and on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. during the musical season.
Holmdel High School Bell Canto Ringers
The Bell Canto Ringers are the advanced bell students in the High School. Students in this ensemble must have at least one year of ringing background or pass an audition. The ensemble rehearses Monday afternoons from 2:40 to 4:00 p.m., and on Monday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the musical season. This ensemble performs at two concerts per year.
